As a personal challenge, I have decided to embark on a 31-day challenge to lower my stress level, and make staying at home not so overwhelming. Each day, I will focus on one area of my life that can be cleaned up or addressed to help make my life just a teensy bit easier – and less stressful.
I know cleanliness is a given. You take a shower everyday (in theory). But how long do you really spend just enjoying the warm water, taking a few minutes for reflection, or just enjoying the sound of the water (and nothing else!)?
My husband can spend hours in the shower. It drives me bananas. I am in and out in less than ten minutes. I usually have about 10 minutes before one or both kids lose their mind. I shower with purpose. Forget taking a bath – I haven’t done that since we were in our last house – and that was six months ago.
But I am starting to think that this long shower concept actually is a great thing. How else to wash off the stresses of the day? And a bath – that would be magical. I remember how relaxing it was to take a bath when I was pregnant. The calm, the necessity to close the bathroom door, sometimes there were even candles involved.
So today, I am committing to taking a long shower. Water conservation be damned, I have taken less than my fair share for years. But in making that commitment, I know that it has to be carefully planned. Instead of waiting for that magical, mythical time when both kids are napping, I will wait till they are both asleep. I will step into the bathroom, dim the lights, lock the door and take my hard earned shower.
I might even make it to 15 minutes!
