Watch: How HS2 is delivering record breaking modular bridge construction on the Colne Valley Viaduct

This video was first recorded at NCE’s Bridge Design and Maintenance conference.

Use of a 700t launch girder for construction of High Speed 2’s (HS2’s) Colne Valley Viaduct is allowing use of modular construction techniques to build what will become the UK’s longest rail bridge when complete.

HS2 contract Align JV’s technical director Alan Price talks through the drivers for using the method on work to build the 3.3km long structure to minimise impact on local road users.

Proce also talks through the role of optimisation to improve design efficiency to reduce steel and concrete use in large structure, as well as how Align used this approach to reduce the embodied carbon in the Colne Valley Viaduct by 30%.
