I love Christmas. My fondest memories were of going to the big Christmas tree lot and picking out a huge noble fir with white flocking and decorating it at home. I remember the competition between my father and uncle over who decorated their tree better (or their house, etc. I think there was always some type of competition with those two).
But as I got older and started having to buy the trees myself, I came to two realizations:
- As much as I love the smell of a fresh Christmas tree, the cleanups (and disposal!) are a pain in the neck. I remember finding needles in my carpet in April one time. I also remember the poor unfortunate tree that was still hanging out in my apartment at the end of January because I couldn’t figure out how to dispose of it.
- Those suckers are absolutely expensive. I can’t remember the last time I was able to leave a tree lot under $50. I am sure there are less expensive places to find them, but I am not driving out to the forest to get one.
So, after my daughter was born, I finally gave in to artificial trees. I thought it was sacrilege, but let me tell you, my eyes are open. First, I can set up the tree whenever I feel like it. It doesn’t have to be this huge production to go pick one off the lot. I found a perfect one, and it is sitting in my garage. Secondly, I don’t have to add a line for tree purchase into my holiday budget. They pay for themselves after a few years.
I have come across a great supplier for artificial trees (too late for my family tree, alas, but when I get my mansion, I will be getting my “display trees” here). King of Christmas has great artificial Christmas trees. I especially love the Cypress Spruce 7 foot Artificial Christmas tree that is pre-lit. Can I tell you how nice it is to not have to mess around with light strings? You just plug in the tree and go.
But the best part is that King of Christmas is GIVING AWAY a tree! Just in time for the holidays. Save yourself a trip to the tree lot (and a bundle of money) by winning the tree that I am in love with!
