Welcome to the Mom Owned Business Spotlight. In each installment, I will feature a new Mom Business Owner. I am so excited to show how different each business is as well as how everyone has different experiences and lessons that go along with entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneur that started my business when my daughter was born, I am passionate about business ownership, as well as honoring the mom experience while growing your business.
Today I am asking questions of Christy Muck of Wild Blossom Hollow.
Tell me a little about yourself. Who do you share your life with?
My name is Christy Muck and I am the momma of 3 crazy beautiful kiddos. Iris 8 Troy 7 and Finn 5. I have been married to my best friend for 9 years….legit have been BF since 1st grade and we also have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 11 chickens and a flourishing flower farm.
How did you get into business? Did it just happen one day? Did you have an exit strategy from your day job? Do you still have a day job? I love to hear how women got their start in business!
Honestly gardening was my release when I stayed at home with the kids….3 under 3 at one time. When the little guy was getting ready to go to pre k I was getting asked everyday when I was going to go back to work. Honestly I didn’t want to go back a I wanted to keep gardening and sharing my love of flowers with others. So I created Wild Blossom Hollow.
What makes you excited to “go to work” each day? What helps you push through the long days?
Myself. I do this for me and for my sanity and it’s my passion. As a mom and wife having something for you is huge.
What is the hardest thing about being a mom and being in business for you? What tradeoffs do you make when trying to balance both?
Trying to do anything when the kids are home….especially emails as they yell at me for “playing games” on my phone and lol
Tell me about your business! What do you do/make? Who are your ideal clients?
I am a floral artist and flower farmer who does weddings and events. Honestly my ideal client is someone who appreciates flowers and our planted as much as I do….and is fun!
Where can we find your business online? Please include your social media links as well!
Where do you work geographically? Do you work from home, have an office?
I have an office, workshop and farm located at our home in Forestville, NY.
For someone considering starting their own business, what advice would you give them? How would you encourage them to start out?
Just go for it. Take a leap….have faith in yourself and keep researching. 😉
What do your kids think about your business? Do they think what you do is awesome?
They love it most days…except when I have bridal meetings and they have something else in mind for that day.
Lastly, if you had to do it all over again, what change would you make, if any?
I would have started sooner and researched a little more.
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions, Christy! If you have questions of your own for Christy, ask them in the comments below. Thank you for checking out this installment of the Mom Owned Business Spotlight!
