I am kind of a food and wine nut. I love great food and wine, and love trying new things. I am also really sensitive to temperatures of my food and drink. I have noticed that since becoming a mom, I am even more aware of my need to have my food at the proper temperature – usually because my food is cold by the time that everyone else is served and happy.
Wines are no different. I like my reds room temperature or slightly cold, but my whites need to be super chilled. There is nothing worse than a room temperature Pinot Grigio.
Being a mom, it never fails that I pour myself a glass of wine after a long day and sit down to drink it when one or both kids decide that they are not ready for bed after all. Last night, for example, I poured my glass of wine and my son immediately decided that I needed to sit in his room to go to sleep.
Fabulous. I just poured a very nice Gewürztraminer, which I only enjoy when it is ice cold. Luckily, I had the foresight to put my new Napa Wine Chiller in the freezer the night before. I had added it to my glass before pouring my wine. So when my son finally drifted off to sleep a half hour later, my wine was STILL the perfect temperature.
What is this amazing contraption? It is a metal ball that you put in the freezer for a few hours and then place in your wine glass. Then you pour your wine over it and enjoy it at the proper temperature for a few hours (if the wine lasts that long, of course). I also tested it and you can chill a room temperature white to the proper temperature in just a few minutes.
The ball contains an Artic Core that keeps the metal cold enough to keep your drink cold (or chill your drink), and the metal doesn’t change the taste of your drink. Which is awesome, because I hate when you get a metallic aftertaste in your drink.
I also like the company that created the Napa Wine Chiller, Balls of Steel. Besides being a little cheeky, it is a company with a cause. With the purchase of any of their products (they make a whole line of drink chillers) they also donate a portion of each sale to Men’s Health. So literally, they promote Balls of Steel.
So if you are looking for a great present for a wine aficionado (or a little mommy-luxury item – who doesn’t want to enjoy COLD WHITE WINE??) look no further than the Napa Wine Chiller. They also make great hostess gifts!
